Prices and what's included

Our current pricing figures are below; until we actually purchase all the parts of the trip, prices are subject to change. So these prices are a best estimate.

Tokyo, Takayama, and Kyoto

Total price: $3,950 per person

* Plus, each traveler must join Denver Sister Cities International.

* Note that the cost is about $4,450, but the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee is providing a $500 scholarship for each student

* Note due to constantly changing airfares, prices are subject to change until we actually buy tickets

* We anticipate running at least one fund raising event the students are expected to participate in.

Here's what's included:

  • Round trip airfare, Denver to Tokyo and return
  • 9 nights and 10 days in Japan
  • Standard class (3 star) hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto
  • Local homestay in Takayama (3 nights)
  • Transportation to and from hotels
  • Transportation between cities by bus or rail
  • At least three segments on shinkansen (bullet train)
  • PASMO IC card for transportation and more in Tokyo and Kyoto
  • Admissions to various venues (museums, temples, etc.)
  • All breakfasts and dinners
     
  • Creation and maintenance of this tripsite as an information source and communication tool
    • Information about the trip (Prices, Itinerary)
    • Information about the travelers (students and chaperones)
    • Information about each destination
    • Discussions of issues that concern trip members
    • Tips and tools (currency conversion, weather, time zones, etc.)
    • Information about other resources, either on the web or locally available (public library, personal libraries of trip members, etc.)
       
  • Services of two tour escorts: (see "The Travelers" page):
  • Pre-trip:
    • Interface with travel agent to coordinate itinerary requirements and negotiate best prices comensurate with desired quality
    • Run orientation meetings to create detailed tailored itineraries and provide language and cultural background
    • Provide information about local events that may be of interest to members of the trip
    • Provide focal point for completing paperwork and making payments
  • During trip:
    • Lead group through all connections from original departure through final return
    • Provide support (communication, direction, other assitance) throughout the trip
    • Connect with local contacts for enhanced experiences (guides, drivers, etc.)
  • Post trip
    • Provide focal point for coordinating exchange of digital pictures in a common trip album
    • Possibly run a welcome-back potluck party for returning travelers
       

Here's what's not included:

  • Membership in Denver Takayama Sister City Committee (tax deductible) if you are not already a member, we require you to join the committee; to join Denver Sister Cities International, click here then select either the "Annual Traditional Membership" or the "Around the World" membership
  • Travel insurance - check out our FAQ about insurance
  • Lunches
  • Personal items (snacks, souvenirs, etc.)

 

Note: there is no tipping in Japan

 

Critical dates:

  • Note: There is a 4% surcharge on payments made using credit card
  • Payments should be made by checks made out to "DSCI" with a memo field of "2023 Japan Exchange Trip"
  • You can bring payments to any group orientation session or mail to:

  • $2,500 due on or before April 15
  • $1,450 due on or before May 16

Cancellation policy:

  • Once purchased, airline tickets are non-refundable
  • Cancellation on or before April 15: $200 fee for travel agency withheld; rest of non-airline ticket money is refundable
  • No refund for cancellation after April 15
